HUMILIATION: He Humbled Himself ~ Philippians 2:5-11

Sovereign LORD, You reign over heaven & earth.   The earth is yours and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein.  Though you founded all creation and establish it for your glory, in your eternal wisdom and amazing mercy humbled yourself for us.  You gave yourself in becoming a man not because you needed to or because you needed anything from us but because of your steadfast love and lavish mercy toward us.   We praise your Sovereign and glorious name.  Lord, we confess our pride.  We receive everything from your hand and we more often than not treat each gift as if we deserve it.  We complain and grumble as we work around all the blessings you have given to us convinced we need something more.   Our own agenda and interests are far more necessary in our lives than each day than the interests and needs of our fellow saints.  We confess these and call them what our text calls them this morning.  They are selfish ambition and conceit.  Our minds are too often set on earthly things instead of Jesus Christ & the power of His resurrection.  Grant us by the power of your Spirit this morning, Lord, eyes to see our pride.  Also give us humble faith and genuine repentance that we might turn from our self determined, self confident, self composed lives that we  long to share in Christ’s sufferings and become like Him in His death  that by any means possible we might attain to the resurrection from the dead.   We ask these things in the name of our humble and glorious Savior, Jesus Christ.  Amen & Amen.
